You've done it. found the best property in Bozeman for you. This is an exciting time! Now, there is the next big step... (not before closing of course! Outfitting Your Bozeman HōM

One of my absolute favorite activities (sometimes to my hubby’s chagrin) is furniture shopping in Bozeman. It is a unique combination of inspiring, disappointing and enthralling. How can it be all things at once? Selection here is phenomenal and yet it can be repetitive. Furniture is available at all price points and all qualities in Bozeman and the two don't automatically correlate. Selections are ever changing and you never know where you are going to find that next amazing piece.

In order to best serve you in your furniture quest, I’ve grouped my favorite local stores into categories, to help you identify the store that best meets your needs. Whether you are seeking luxury, economy, quirky or something in-between, there is a store for you. The best part of shopping in Bozeman is that there is almost always supported by amazing customer service which makes it more fun!

Luxury:
Furniture Panache opened within the last year in Bozeman and is well located on the US 191 corridor, just a little further south from “furniture row” and on the way to Big Sky, MT. The selection at Furniture Panache is both well-appointed while economically accessible and includes carefully curated new furniture alongside repurposed classics. The proprietor Shane Kirkham is a long time Bozeman local designer and opened Furniture Panache to meet a need in our changing furniture market. Furniture Panache just handpicked the décor for HōM 406 and it is a delight inside. Come see what Shane curated!

Montana Expressions always makes me tingle with anticipation and is a wonderful delight for your tactile senses. Their floor is a fantastic combination of Montana Rustic and Modern Contemporary. I purchased my dining table here (I was super excited when they moved locations and had the entire store on sale!) and the customer service was phenomenal. I will say, my Mom was shopping with me and I think she was a little appalled when I asked for same day delivery of the table I purchased for the dinner party I was having that night... and Montana Expressions Furniture delivered, and I had my table in time for my party! Thanks Ralph.

Architects Wife is ideally located in the heart of Bozeman, on E. Babcock. Not only are they a phenomenal resource for large furniture pieces, but they are also an unparalleled resource for finishing touches. I couldn’t have been more thankful for their puzzle selection during phase one of Covid-19 shutdowns. Further, their online shop is always updating and a great place to shop from the comfort of your current couch. Did you notice their brand new sign? I love seeing growth and progress.

Traditional:
Rikki’s Furniture is located on N. 7th, and their focus is American Made Furniture. A little history - Rikki’s was originally Bozeman TV and Appliance and when the store closed, it is my understanding that one of their long-time employee’s, Rikki, purchased the store. She worked hard to keep the crew in-place and the store thriving; her commitment to Bozeman is one example of what builds our sense of community. Rikki’s is a great place to look for a Lazy Boy or items of a similar feel.

Outwest Furniture is comparable to Rikki’s pricing point and is not just a purveyor of American Made products, but also works very hard to display locally made rustic pieces. They always have drinks and snacks out for their customers, which I appreciate; sometimes on the hunt for that perfect piece you really need a little hydration! The show room is pretty full, so give yourself a little extra time here. There is so much to see, I have to really slow down and take a couple laps.

Big Bear Furniture just reopened under new ownership. Historically, this was Little Bear Interiors and served the rustic clientele in Bozeman and Big Sky. All of the furniture in Big Bear is real-wood (no composite here) and is well suited for your rustic hideaway! Customer service is again outstanding here. Although this furniture is a little larger than my style, the owner worked hard to meet my needs. I can appreciate that drive to exceed my expectations.

Chain:
Chain stores are exactly what you would expect. I won’t go into much detail about them here other than to mention Ashley Furniture’s sale room… a delightful gem hidden in the back of the store. Floor models, damaged pieces and returns all make it to the sale room and can be a great resource for filler pieces. I picked up a dresser for $80 in there that just made my day! Also, it is a fun place to haggle, if you are in the mood for such things.

Repurposed:
Refinery on 7th has been open for a few years now and is in a location near to my heart, just east of the Mandeville Farm homestead. This oversized showroom is a surprise as I had no idea how much furniture was really in store! The inventory is always changing, making it a frequent stop for me. If you are looking for something in particular, be sure to stop and talk with the shop keeps, there is even more furniture in the back that hasn’t been put out on the floor yet! As I said, their inventory is always changing.

Used Furniture Store (UFS) is located just north of Main Street and can be a little difficult to get to due to surrounding construction. I just noticed one of the under construction buildings is a new location for UFS, just across the street. I found one of my favorite personal pieces here, an oversized Restoration Hardware leather chair. It was a great find! Be sure to keep your eye on the pricing. I had found some chairs at UFS that matched my dining table well which I was thrilled about. I did a quick internet search before committing and discovered they were priced at the same price as Ashley Furniture in the sale room; so I bought what I needed, new.

Quirky:
JR’s Furniture & Antiques is located at the Antique Barn and is an interesting combination of Prairie and quirky. This is a really great stop for farmhouse rustic staples and metalwork. I had fun exploring the metal letters, shelf hangers and sculptures. There was enough to see in this shop that it took me a few laps to take it all in, but not so much that I felt like I couldn’t see what they have. It was crazy to see a few pieces that reminded me of my Grandma’s house. So much so, I text my Mom to ask if the piece I was looking at was the same one Grandma Mandeville had. I’ll be sure to pop back into JR’s for housewarming gifts.

Antique Barn is a longstanding Bozeman staple that I had not been into for years. It is a bit like Facebook Marketplace (in real life) as it is hundreds of square feet stuffed to the brim with unique treasures from distinctive sellers. An interesting thing about the Antique Barn is that each “booth” is rented by an individual treasure hunter. So, about every 10 square feet can be something totally different. Primitive tools, prairie finds, and vintage clothing can all be intertwined. I am not an expert treasure hunter, but I think if you were you could have so much fun here! I have to admit, the sheer volume of items in the Antique Barn overwhelms me and I can only explore for about 15 minutes at a time.

Let me know what your favorite stores are, and what sets them apart. There is so much opportunity in Bozeman for distinctive design, I've only touched on a few of my favorite stops here. Happy hunting... and remember, don't finance any furniture before closing!
